Overview
Memino was developed during 4 days during the 2024 Game Jam, inspired by the theme “Make Me Laugh.” It is a humorous game centered around cat memes, guiding players through a playful journey to unlock a comedic ending cinematic. The game blends a unique “Paper Mario” style with 2D characters navigating a 3D environment, delivering a fresh aesthetic and engaging gameplay.
My Contributions
As a Game Designer and Game Developer, I worked closely with the art and music teams to align all aspects of the game’s purpose. My specific contributions included:
Cinematics and Visual Elements
• Designed and implemented the intro and level sequence cinematics to enhance storytelling.
• Imported and integrated 2D art assets into the 3D world using Unreal Engine’s Paper 2D system.
• Modeled a waterfall mesh and developed a realistic water material, adding animated fish for environmental immersion.
Gameplay Features
• Programmed character movement and interactions, ensuring smooth navigation in the hybrid 2D/3D world.
• Designed and implemented gameplay mechanics, such as:
• Jumping platforms for added fun and exploration.
• Spikes and moving blocks to create challenging obstacles.
• Disappearing platforms, inspired by Fall Guys, to increase difficulty and strategy.
User Interface (UI/UX)
• Designed and implemented the game menu with intuitive UX and interactive UI elements.
Audio Integration
• Coordinated with the music team to integrate background tracks and sound effects, enhancing the game’s environment and player experience.
Key Achievements
• Delivered a polished prototype within the Game Jam’s time constraints.
• Successfully captured the theme of humor through cohesive design and cat-themed content.
• Gained hands-on experience in cinematic creation, gameplay mechanics, and environmental design in Unreal Engine.
